How should we pray in light of God’s grace?

Understanding and experiencing the grace of God literally wrecked my prayer life. How I once prayed no longer made sense. I had to step back and take a fresh look at the role prayer plays in the believer’s life.

So what is prayer? It is talking with God. It is intelligent, personal communication with our heavenly Father whom we love and who loves us. The purpose, for which Jesus Christ redeemed us, is to make this personal relationship possible. (more…)

Who’s In Control?

When Satan deceives and controls people, I do not mean to say that we are puppets and Satan can manipulate us in any way he chooses. Neither am I talking about demon possession. Instead I’m talking about coming to the realization that whatever or whomever we depend upon will ultimately control us. Therefore, we fall under Satan’s control when we believe his lies rather than trust God’s truth. (more…)

The Mercy of Strangers

Amy George was born in the Ukraine at the outbreak of World War II. While she was still an infant, her father was taken away by the KGB never to return home. In 1943 little Amy and her mother were detained by Hitler’s troops and sent to a forced labor camp in Fallerslaben, Germany. In the midst of enemies, Amy and her family experienced God’s faithfulness and kindness, even through strangers. We pick up her story within a Hitler Youth Camp.

Most days, I either sat on the steps in front of Mother’s workplace or wandered around wherever I wanted to investigate. But, I always made it back in time to eat with her. It was critical to show up for mealtimes because there was no other source of food. Yet, the food was so different from what I’d been used to, I found it impossible to eat everything I was served. Reflecting God’s Glory

The prophet Isaiah declared, “The whole earth is full of His glory.” The Apostle Paul echoed Isaiah’s words in his letter to the Romans: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…” (Romans 1:20). Everywhere you look in nature, you see the glory of God. (more…)
